Six simple ideas for Metairie and Greater New Orleans

These are the principles Isobel will use to judge every decision. They are written in plain language on purpose, so you can hold her to them.

1

Open Books, Open Doors

If you pay for it, you should be able to read it.

  • Post parish budgets and contracts in plain language, not only in legal PDFs.
  • Publish meeting agendas, and the documents behind them, early enough to read before a vote.
  • Tie every public dollar to a stated purpose and a way to check the result.
2

Spend Like It's Your Money

Government should live within its means, the same way your household does.

  • Fund the basics first, then ask whether anything else is truly needed.
  • Oppose new taxes and fees that have not been explained publicly and tied to a specific need.
  • Put review dates on new programs so they have to prove they work to continue.
3

Drainage, Storms, and Safety First

In a place that lives with water, the basics are not optional.

  • Fund and maintain the pumps, canals, and drains we already depend on before adding anything new.
  • Be ready before the storm: clear evacuation plans, honest communication, and fast restoration of power and services.
  • Back the first responders and deputies who answer when neighbors call, and publish response data so results are visible.
4

Neighborhood Business, Your Property

Peaceful people should be free to open a shop, run a kitchen, or fix up what they own.

  • Keep permits and local rules simple, fair, and written in plain language.
  • Make it easier to start a restaurant, a shop, or a home business, and to keep it going.
  • Protect owners from surprise rules and surprise fees.
5

One Region, Smarter Together

Greater New Orleans shares water, levees, roads, and storms. Parishes should work together on what crosses the line.

  • Coordinate across parish lines on drainage, flood protection, and emergency response.
  • Give neighbors early notice and real input before major growth and development decisions.
  • Keep decisions about neighborhoods as close to the neighborhood as possible.
6

Neighbors Over Bureaucracy

The strongest safety net is the people next door.

  • Clear the way for neighborhood groups, krewes, churches, and youth leagues to serve.
  • Cut the paperwork for using public spaces for community events.
  • Back the coaches, volunteers, and neighbors who already hold this community together.

Not left. Not right. Local.

A drainage canal has no party. Neither does a safe street or an honest budget. Party for the People is for neighbors across Greater New Orleans who care more about results than about wearing a team jersey.

My pledge

Promises you can check

Each of these depends only on me, so there are no excuses.

  1. 01

I will hold an open town hall every quarter, in person, and take questions from anyone.

  2. 02

I will explain every vote in plain language and post it within one week.

  3. 03

I will answer every message from a resident within three business days.

  4. 04

I will refuse gifts, perks, and paid travel from anyone with business before me.

  5. 05

I will ask that new programs carry a review date, so they have to earn renewal.
